Cappadocia is located in the very heart of Turkey and is a region that mostly resembles a sci-fi movie setting. With endless amounts of rock formations, hundreds and hundreds of houses carved out of the mountain slopes throughout centuries. Entire cities, that remind us of true anthills, emerge and hide beneath the ground. Inside the caves, a lot of the christian churches still display Byzantine frescos.
Cappadocia was the capital of the Hittite Empire until 1.100 b.C. and is an important province of the Roman Empire, with a mention in the Bible and everything. It is also the home of St. George, worshipped by Brazillians but fairly unknown to local inhabitants. The name Cappadocia comes from "Katpatukya", which means "Land of the beautiful horses". With extensive planes, great mountains and extinct vulcanoes, the region is perfect for tourists seeking history and leisure.
The Yunak Evleri Cappadocia Cave Hotel is located in Urgrup and is a luxurious structure that includes six cave houses, that go back to the 5th and 6th centuries, and, also, a huge Greek mansion built in the 19th century. The place, aside from being perfect to stay at, is also the base for the incursions in the underground cities and churches located in its proximities.
The facilities in the Yunak were renewed and restored, keeping the original work, but adding everything that comfort and commodity can offer, nowadays. It's a total of 30 wonderfully decorated rooms with handcrafted objects and antiques, many and wonderful antiques. A labyrinth of hallways and stone staircases take us to incredible environments in the Ottoman style. Every room has an exclusive patio and an amazing view.
In the big stone mansion there is a fantastic music room, packed with a gigantic collection of cds. Wi-fi and computers with Internet connection aside from a cosy home theater are also mixed in with the rocks, marbles and Turkish drapes.
The restaurants offer delicacies and century-old recipes, at a high quality rate and you can choose to have your meals outside, in the common areas or in exclusive patios. It's outside that you can have one of the most impressive views of the region: the sunset, which reminds us of red flames. An incredible idea for those who appreciate tradition and history, but don't want to give up comfort and good taste. Don't forget to get to know it.
